January

January 20: Saturday in the Gardens - Discovery Gardens open 9 am to 4 pm. Educational talks will be presented at Wooten Park in Tavares as part of the Arbor Day celebration.

January 20: Arbor Day celebration in Tavares Wooton Park. Agent Brooke Moffis will talk about Pruning Techniques and Tools at 11:30 am. Master Gardeners will talk about Flowering Trees and Shrubs for Central Florida at 1:30 pm and a Tree Walk around Wooton Park will be conducted by a Master Gardener at 2:30 pm. Lake Soil and Water Conservation District will be giving away Chickasaw Plum trees and Tavares Middle School will be giving away Tabebuia trees. Florida Forest Service will give away Slash Pine trees.

January 26: 4-H Chili Cook-off. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Lake County Extension Center. Sorrento Renegades 4-H Club proudly presents the 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off. Tickets are $5 to sample chili or $10 to enter a pot in the contest. To reserve a spot in the cook-off, call 407-319-1543. It is recommended to bring cash for raffles and the silent auction.

January 31: Healthy Cooking for 1 or 2. 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Cooper Memorial Library, 2525 Oakley Seaver Dr., Clermont. Participants will learn how to make healthier choices, discover recipes and ideas for nutritious meals, and downsize and simplify meal preparation without sacrificing flavor. Register online for this free class

February 8: Worker Protection Standards Train the Trainer class. 8 a.m. - noon. $20. Register.

February 28: Review and Exam for Limited Certification Pesticide Applicator. AKA "Roundup License" .8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Register.

March

March 7: Review and Exams for Ornamental & Turf and Private Ag Pesticide Applicator licenses. 8 a.m. to noon, exams administered 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. $20. Register.

March 24-25: Landscape and Garden Fair in the Discovery Gardens
